CALL ME FATHER - Good news about a former Fort Schuyler colleague from JACK HAYES '47. "You will remember JEFF MONROE, who, with me, worked so diligently with the students in his classes to put together the rudiments of the Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler." He continues, "Jeff was too busy protecting the Port of Portland to come to the awards meeting which honored us at the twentieth anniversary of the Museum. Now Jeff is embarked on a new career - ordained minister of the Anglican Church."

On August 8, 2009 CAPT. JEFFREY W. MONROE, former Director of the Department of Ports and Transportation for the City of Portland, ME, will be ordained to the priesthood at a ceremony at the Trinity Anglican Church located in Rochester, NH. (www.trinity-anglican.org) Jeffrey, a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, is a former member of our Marine Transportation Department faculty, the founding Director of the Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler, and recipient of a master's degree in Transportation Management from Fort Schuyler. Responding to a query from NFFS, the future Rev. Mr. Monroe wrote: "Actually I felt the call before I even went to college, but the Lord had other plans for me. I will be assigned to a regular church and will still do a little 'transportation' on the side. This had been a long road, but had been well worth the trip." BACK TO NEW YORK - Six classmates from the Class of October 1946 "...met for a chance to bond and reminisce, while devouring a good supply of cholesterol at Ben's Deli in the Wheatley Heights Shopping Center on Northern Blvd." AL GOLDEN continues: "The 16 July reunion, which was "...occasioned by a trip to New York by TOM MANCINI from his home in Springs, Texas" also included JOHN MARZULLO, JOHN VISCARDI, LEN WEISS, EV ROSENBLUM, and AL GOLDEN. "It was noted that we not only equaled out at 3 Italians and 3 Jews, but 3 were deck and 3 were engineers. One of the topics of discussion was regarding plans for our 65th reunion, in 2011!" [A very impressive number of years for a college reunion.]
