MEET CLIVE CUSSLER AT THE LUCE LIBRARY - On Tuesday, December 7, 1999 at 3PM, best-selling author and underwater researcher Clive Cussler will sign copies of his latest Dirk Pitt adventure, Atlantis Found, in the Reading Room of the Luce Library at SUNY Maritime College. In introducing his 16th Dirk Pitt book, Clive writes: "I've always had tremendous fun with Dirk Pitt, but nothing has given me more pleasure than the opportunity to send him to that most fabled of lost lands, Atlantis, and to virtually reinvent aspects of its civilization. I hope you have as good a time reading Atlantis Found as I did writing it!" And of course, his indomitable hero, Dirk Pitt, is a marine engineer!

Mr. Cussler received the first honorary doctorate ever granted by SUNY Maritime College in 1997. A strong supporter of the Luce Library and frequent visitor to the campus, Clive has also agreed to speak at this event. At the same time, we are launching the Friends of the Luce Library. As a Friend of the Library, you can help us strengthen the library's collections by acquiring new titles and maintaining an up-to date maritime research collection. With your help, the Luce Library will remain one of the nation's pre-eminent maritime libraries as SUNY Maritime College enters its 125th year of leadership in maritime education.

On December 7 readers of NFFS can help the library grow by becoming charter members of the Friends of the Luce Library. We plan to sponsor future events, and Friends will be the first ones notified of events such as tours of local venues, lectures, and readings. As a special offer for this first event, you can purchase an autographed copy of Clive's latest Dirk Pitt adventure novel Atlantis Found AND get a one year membership in Friends of the Luce Library. (BTW - This autographed book would also make a great gift for a colleague.)

To insure that you will get a signed copy, the book should be purchased in advance. There will only be a limited number of books available for sale at the library that day. You can send checks, made out to LCAF/FOL, in the amount of $30, to:
