SCHUYLER IMPRINT - A recent e-mail from ROBERT T. ANDERSON, Class of 1962, included this observation about Maritime: "Even though I live 800 miles from NY and have been away from the school for almost 40 years, the time spent there was the major educational experience of my life (I have 2 M.S.'s from major universities and they had nowhere the impact on my life) - and I enjoy hearing about the school and fellow alumni. MUSEUM EVENTS - There are several interesting events at the Maritime Industry Museum next month. On Saturday, September 11 the focus will be on the MORRO CASTLE disaster which occurred 65 years ago down-river from the Fort. Events include the opening of an expanded exhibit, an open forum with survivors, and a memorial service. A week later, on September 18, the museum has several Homecoming Events including the dedication of a new Memorial Wall and the "American Mariner" sculpture in the completely refurbished Hall of Honor (the1st Class Lounge for you old-timers); the unveiling of the new scratch model of EMPIRE STATE I (AMERICAN PILOT), built by BARRY MARSH, Class of 1986; and the opening of the "World's Fair 1939" exhibit. THIS IS A TEST - The first question that KATHI PYZYNSKI, Luce Library Systems Manager, was asked by her instructor at a networking class being held off-campus last week was if she knew what MCFAF stood for. After racking her mind for computer/networking acronyms, she said that the only definition she had ever heard for it was the motto introduced in the 1980's by former college president, FLOYD H. "Hoss" MILLER, Class of 1953: "Maritime College First and Foremost." Correct ! The teacher then introduced himself as DAVID T. DRYSDALE II, Class of 1986. You can visit Dave's newly developed website at: http://homepages.msn.com/RedmondAve/rigel77 (PS - According to Kathi, the course was excellent.)

APOPHASIS ANYONE? When the report about Iceberg B10A arrived with the online version of Fairplay Daily Shipping News ("Mammoth iceberg threatens shipping") it seemed a natural for NFFS. Even after finding the same story in the New York Times, the editor still thought the story remained viable. But when a broadcaster at the Yankee-Royals game mentioned the iceberg, your editor knew it was time to ice the story. Therefore, the iceberg item won't be mentioned. (Nevertheless, there is a fascinating NOAA web-site featuring icebergs at: http://www.natice.noaa.gov )

ALT-CTRL-DEL - I hope everyone soon realized that the "n" was missing from "alumni" in the URL cited in the NFFS 3:35 item about the new online jobs database which the Alumni Association now provides. Sorry.
