KEEPING IN STEP WITH THE FUTURE - At a "Town Meeting" on August 12, the College President, DAVID C. BROWN, made a detailed presentation to faculty and staff about plans to take Maritime to an even "higher level of excellence." A printed fact sheet, entitled, "State University of New York Maritime College - In Step with the Future," summarizing the President's remarks was distributed at the meeting. It reads in part: "With the support of SUNY, the campus will develop a new Master Plan which will include significant enhancement of the academic programs with a shift of focus toward our degree programs, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a major capital investment in new facilities and upgrading of the existing physical plant." Key words include: planning - enrollment/marketing - alternatives/optional formats - mission transformation - evolutionary - quality. President Brown concluded the meeting by noting that, "This cooperative effort with the SUNY leadership represents an unparalleled opportunity and a defining moment for Maritime College. Transforming the college into a center of academic excellence while retaining and building upon our traditional maritime identity will assure the college's continued existence as a world leader in our field well into the next century."
