BIG ALUMNI EVENT ON OCTOBER 27 - Join DONALD P. BRENNAN, Class of 1961, to hear about the challenges and opportunities he foresees for the Maritime College, the global merchant marine, and business information technologies in the new millennium. TRADITIONS CONTINUE - "The change to winter uniform will be effective Monday 19 October. The uniform of the day will be undress blue (CPO)." (Source: Plan of the Week for October 19-25)

SOME WENT ON TO OTHER ENDEAVORS - Memories of AL AYMER, Class of 1967, about <novo latte> and other gastronomic delights, prompted a note from classmate, ED WORMUTH. Ed left Fort Schuyler after two semesters to pursue, naturally, a culinary career! (Even then he knew food?) Having worked as a full chef during his 28 year career, he is now at the famous Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa (which has TWO "Four Star" restaurants.) He writes: "My biggest accomplishment lately, however, is my 2-year marriage to Holliday and our 19 month-old daughter, Grace. This is the first child for both of us."

LIBRARY LECTURE PROGRAM - There will be a tuneful kickoff event for the 1998/99 lecture series at 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 29 in the S&E Lecture Hall. "Popular American Songs: from Stephen Foster to Stephen Sondheim" will be presented by Michael Lasser, lecturer, writer, and host of the syndicated radio program, "Fascinatin' Rhythm." This program is co-sponsored by the Humanities Department. Everyone, on-campus and off-campus, is invited to attend this free event.

DON'T FORGET YOUR YANKEE CAPS - The San Diego (aka Southern California) Chapter chair, BILL BARTSCH, Class of 1984, urges ALL naval architects and West Coast alumni to click on the alumni web site link for "Alumni Meeting During San Diego SNAME Convention Nov 12t.h. Billed as AN EVENING WITH ADMIRAL DAVID BROWN, the president will "...discuss the college, including its past, present and future. So much has changed since the days we all tossed our "covers" high into the air at the Fort. I guarantee that this evening will be entertaining, educational and a bit surprising." In addition, a Distinguished Alumnus Award will be conferred upon JACK RINGELBERG, Class of 1961, by another distinguished alumnus, JOSE FEMENIA, Class of 1964, the incoming president of SNAME. (Sources: E-mail from W. Bartsch and Alumni web site quotes.)

WEDDING BELLS - Congratulations to ERIC JOHNSON, Class of 1985, and Diane, who were married on 3 October in Stamford, CT (they will live in Alexandria, VA where Eric is an engineer at the nearby Naval Surface Warfare Center.) Attending the event were classmates DREW JAMES and ROB KRAUSE. Rob works for GE in Schenectady, is married, and has two children with another on the way. (Source: E-mail from Drew James.)

CRUISE PORT MEMORIES - "I just returned from a business trip to Europe," writes RICK BAGSHAW, Class of 1962, "where my wife joined me in France. We were to meet friends in St. Tropez which we eventually did. Due to a scheduling complexity our friends made reservations for us for the first two days elsewhere. That turned out to be Villefranche, which I was in 35 or so years ago as a Cadet. It's a lovely little town with very friendly people, most of whom speak some English though there were virtually no Americans there. Having spent a week thereafter in St. Tropez, I strongly prefer Villefranche. Maybe it's nostalgia."
